The Descanso Beach area also serves as the staging area for some of the newest and most exciting activities on the island including the Zip Line Eco Tour. During the scenic drive up to the Zip Line's first platform, 600 feet above Avalon, the driver relates interesting facts about the island and its history. One of the most noteworthy aspects of the Zip Line is its safety. The two cables, full harness and four-point inspection before starting each of the five sections provide ample reassurance. Even with that peace of mind, stepping off the platform for the first time is thrilling! Zooming along at speeds up to 45MPH and suspended up to 300 feet above Descanso Canyon, the experience is exhilarating. Furthermore, at each of the platforms along the tour, the friendly guides present unique facts about the island’s history, flora and fauna. The tour lasts about two hours — and the memories much longer.
