Katie Grinnan, Acrobat. At LAND exhibition, The Secret (Still) Knows.
Los Angeles Nomadic Division Artist multiples available at: http://nomadicdivision.org/multiples.html 7 - Do you find that LAND appeals to a particular age group? Why or why not? Because of what we do and how we function in the cultural landscape, our audience is hard to quantify, and happily so. However, I would imagine that--given that we work with very contemporary artists--it is likely an audience attuned to thinking about culture that way. But I would be loath to apply that to a particular age group, it's not that limited. 8 - Is there a predominant artistic medium among LAND artists right now? (i.e. a trend) I'm not a big fan of the word trend, because it implies that art is a onetime scenario. What's important to me, to communicate, not just personally but in terms of presentation, is the ongoing longevity of creative thinking. That said, at any given moment, there are ways of working that feel more prevalent than others, and, right now, I feel that is a kind of expanded practice – that is, working across mediums to find what best suits an idea rather than committing to one as the focus of your practice. 9 - What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? That's easy enough: it’s essentially spending time with artists in their studios and having access to how art is an ongoing way of thinking about the world and not a one time thing. Most of my curatorial practice is focused around presenting that privilege to others. 10 - What is your favorite pastime when not working? Being a curator is pretty much an all-encompassing way of living your life, one which I love. However, one thing I can't live without is going running whenever I can. It’s kind of my only therapy; the only time I have space to think without anyone else intruding. - Victor Vargas |
